The SEO + AEO Audit Prompt

Your next client asks ChatGPT who to hire before they ever see your website. This prompt audits your site for Google and for AI answers, then hands you the full list of changes to make.

What this prompt does

One audit for Google and for AI answers

SEO gets you found on Google. AEO (answer engine optimization) gets you cited when someone asks ChatGPT or Claude for a recommendation. Most small business websites were built for the first and are invisible to the second.

This prompt runs a full diagnosis of your site for both. It settles the question every local business owner has (rank for the big metro area or for your actual town), accounts for anything you are changing in your business, and comes back with a prioritized change list: pages to rewrite, pages to delete, and pages to build new. You fix specific pages instead of guessing.

I used it on my own photography website and it caught things I had been staring past for years. If you are a small business owner and you are not building anything with AI, this is the best use of Claude's Fable model there is. As I say in the video: to get the most out of the audit, run it with Fable, the most capable model for a job this size. If you no longer have Fable, run it with the other models. It works too.

Copy it. Fill in anything in [brackets].
This is my website [your website URL] and I want you to analyze, criticize and optimize it for SEO and AEO.

I serve clients across [your broader region, like a metro area] but my business is located in [your specific city or town]. What is better to try to rank and get cited by LLMs: building the site around [your broader region] or [your specific city or town] as I have it now?

Here is what is changing in my business: [describe any changes to your website or services: what you are keeping, removing, or making your new focus]. Attached are context files as a reference.

Make a diagnosis and make a list of all the changes needed to rank and get cited by LLMs. Suggestions can include rewriting pages, deleting what is not needed, and writing new pages as needed.
How to use it

3 steps

  1. Fill in the brackets: your website URL, your region and your town, plus any changes happening in your business. If nothing is changing, delete that paragraph.
  2. Paste it into Claude, ChatGPT, or Gemini and attach whatever context you have: your services list, pricing, an about page draft, a brand doc. More context means a sharper diagnosis. If you use Claude Code, run it there so it can read your whole site.
  3. Read the diagnosis, then work through the change list one page at a time. When you hit a page that needs rewriting, ask for the rewrite in the same chat. It already knows your site.
