9 Claude habits worth stealing

Nine small habits that make Claude sharper, cheaper, and less frustrating. Each one takes a few seconds, and once it sticks you keep it for good.

Start here

You're using Claude at half power

You open Claude, type a question, read the answer, and get on with your day. It works. But a lot of what makes Claude good is sitting one habit away, and none of these are hidden features. They're small moves you do on purpose, and they add up fast.

Read them all, then pick one. Use that one until you stop thinking about it, and come back for the next.

The habits

9 habits, one at a time

01
Edit, don't correct

Claude gives you an answer and it's off. Scroll up and edit your first message instead of replying that it's wrong.

Why it works. The wrong answer stays in the thread and drags every reply after it. Edit the question and Claude responds like the mistake never happened.

02
Start a new chat when it gets dull

When the answers start to wander or feel flat, stop pushing. Open a fresh chat and paste just the part that matters.

Why it works. A long chat carries everything said before it, so it gets slower and less sharp as it fills. A clean chat hands you the sharp version back.

03
Let it interview you

Before Claude answers anything that needs your details, have it ask you first.

Why it works. A vague ask gets a generic answer. The questions pull in your real situation, and they often show you what you forgot to mention.

Copy it.
Before you answer, ask me any questions you need to give me a great result.
04
Show it what you hate

Instead of asking for something better, hand Claude an example of what you do not want.

Why it works. "Make it better" gives Claude nothing to aim at. One real example of what you hate is clearer than ten adjectives.

Copy it. Fill in anything in [brackets].
Here is writing I don't want to sound like: [paste it]. Never write like this.
05
Talk, don't type

For anything with a lot of background, tap the mic and say it out loud instead of typing it.

Why it works. When you speak, you include the messy details you would never bother to type. More context going in means a better answer coming out.

06
Ask it to make the image with HTML

Claude does not draw pictures, but it can build a clean graphic you screenshot and post.

Why it works. Text in an image generator often comes out misspelled. Built as HTML, every word is correct and you control the layout.

Copy it. Fill in anything in [brackets].
Make an infographic about [your topic] as an HTML page I can screenshot.
07
Turn a spreadsheet into a chart

You do not need a separate chart tool. Give Claude the numbers and ask for a chart.

Why it works. Claude builds a chart you can click through and actually read, straight from a plain paste. No setup, no new app.

Copy it. Fill in anything in [brackets].
Here is my data: [paste it]. Make this into an interactive chart I can explore.
08
Use Research mode for the big questions

For a real decision, turn on Research mode before you ask.

Why it works. Research reads a stack of sources and comes back with an organized answer, closer to a report than a quick reply. It sits there unused, and it's the mode worth reaching for when the answer matters.

09
Ignore the fancy-named tricks

Every week brings a new technique with a clever name. Let most of them go by.

Why it works. A habit only helps once it is automatic and you stop thinking about it. Pick one thing on this page, use it until it's second nature, then come back for the next.

The bonus

5 more that didn't fit the post

These are the ones I couldn't squeeze into the carousel. Same idea: small habits, real payoff.

10
Don't overstuff Projects

A Project packed with files makes every answer a remix of your own documents, so it all starts to sound the same.

Why it works. Use a Project for repeat work with fixed material. When you want a fresh idea, open a blank chat so nothing pulls the answer back toward your old notes.

11
Send a screenshot, don't describe it

For anything visual, a layout you like, an error on your screen, a design you're reacting to, paste a screenshot instead of typing out what it looks like.

Why it works. Claude reads the image, so you skip a paragraph of describing and it responds to what's actually there, not your description of it.

12
Build a little tool for yourself

You can have Claude build a simple app you actually use, then keep your data in it.

Why it works. You get a private little tool with no code and no new subscription, and it remembers your data each time you come back.

Copy it. Fill in anything in [brackets].
Build me a simple [habit tracker] as an app I can use, and save my data between sessions.
13
Turn off the apps you're not using

If you've connected Claude to a bunch of apps, switch off the ones this task doesn't need.

Why it works. Every connected app is one more thing Claude checks before it answers. Fewer of them means faster, more focused replies.

14
Trust it with real work

Bring the real thing, the actual client email and the real numbers, not a watered-down version.

Why it works. Your business files are as safe in Claude as they are in Google, and it's built for business use. A real input gets you a real answer.

Where to start

Pick one, not all fourteen

Start with the habit that fixes your biggest frustration

If you argue with Claude a lot, start with number 1. If your answers feel generic, start with number 3. Use that one every day for a week until you don't have to think about it, then add the next. That's how a handful of small moves turn Claude into the tool you thought you were already using.
