10 Claude Code commands explained simply

Claude Code runs my whole business and I don't write code. These 10 commands are the reason. All real, all verified, all in plain language.

First things first

Claude Code is for business owners too

Claude Code has a reputation as the developer version of Claude. Here's the truth: it's the version of Claude that does whole jobs on your computer. It reads your files, writes new ones, and keeps working while you do something else. The "code" part is optional. Running your content, your reports, and your weekly admin in it requires zero programming.

You can get it as a desktop app for Mac or Windows, in your browser at claude.ai/code, or in the terminal if that's your thing. Commands work the same everywhere: type / in the chat box, the command list appears, pick one and press enter.

The commands

All 10, in plain language

  1. /advisorWhen a job needs stronger judgment, Claude brings in a second model to advise it at the key moments, then keeps working. Try it when: you're asking for help with a decision that has real money attached, like pricing or a contract.
  2. /pluginAdd a marketplace once, and from then on you can install ready made packs of skills instead of building your own. Try it when: you want Anthropic's official marketing plugin, one install and Claude gets 7 marketing commands.
  3. /renameNames your current chat so you can find it again next week. Try it when: you start any project that will take more than one sitting. I rename every content run with the date.
  4. /scheduleSets up a repeating task that runs in the cloud. Your computer can be off, the work still happens. Try it when: you want a Monday 8am summary of your unread emails and this week's calendar, waiting before you sit down.
  5. /btwAsk a side question in the middle of a job. Claude answers without stopping the work it's doing. Try it when: a report is being written and you suddenly need to know something small. No more waiting or interrupting.
  6. /remote-controlPicks up your current session on another device, right where it stands. Try it when: you started something at your desk and want to check on it from your phone at school pickup.
  7. /insightsClaude reads your recent sessions and tells you how to work with it better. Try it when: you've used Claude Code for a few weeks and want to know what you're doing the hard way.
  8. /clearWipes the slate after a finished task so the next one starts fresh and fast. Try it when: you finish one job and start an unrelated one in the same window.
  9. /modelChoose which Claude you're talking to: the fast one for quick tasks, the deep one for hard thinking. Try it when: a simple task feels slow, or a hard task deserves the strongest model.
  10. /resumeReopens a previous session exactly where you left off. Try it when: it's Tuesday and you want to continue Monday's project without re-explaining anything. Pairs with /rename.
A note about command lists going around

Some viral videos include Claude Code commands that don't exist. One popular list has a made up command in it. Every command on this page was checked against the official docs in July 2026 before it was published, so everything here works when you type it. If you're ever unsure, type /help inside Claude Code and it shows you the real list for your version.
