AI image tools speak photographer. One lighting word in your prompt changes the whole picture, and you don't need to own a single light to use them.
Flat, boring AI images usually have nothing wrong with the subject. They have no lighting direction, so the tool defaults to lighting that belongs in a passport office. Photographers fixed this a century ago by naming their light patterns, and the AI learned every name.
The formula stays the same in ChatGPT, Gemini, or any image tool:
A photo of [your subject], [what they're doing], lit with [lighting word from the list below], [the mood you want].
This part didn't fit on the post. After years of lighting real people and real products, these are the pairings I'd start with for business images.
Start with clamshell for the polished look or loop for the friendly one. Rembrandt when you want authority. Save split lighting for when moody is truly the brand.
Window light for handmade and food, overcast for honest and clean, three-point studio for the commercial catalog look. Add rim lighting when the product disappears into the background.
Golden hour for warmth, high-key for airy and optimistic, neon or chiaroscuro when you need the scroll to stop. One mood per image. Mixing two lighting words is how you get soup.
